Since becoming a parent, I especially appreciate a rare night alone out of the house - and one of my favorite things to do is hear an author speak and get an autographed book. When it comes to meeting authors, I'm truly spoiled by having a local independent bookstore like Anderson's. I still don't know how they consistently offer such incredible events, but our community is very lucky.
These are just a few of their upcoming events: Ellen Hopkins, Eoin Colfer, Drew Daywalt, V.E. Schwab, Jodi Picoult, Sarah J. Mass (sadly already sold out), and Marissa Meyer. I'm also anxiously awaiting the lineup for the annual YA Literature Conference in October -- I will post a blog update once that is announced!
Right now I'm really pumped about an event at the LaGrange location on August 28, featuring award-winning authors Pablo Cartaya (The Epic Fail of Arturo Zamora) and Celia C. Pérez (The First Rule of Punk). I loved both of these books, so I'm sure the two of them will make for a wonderful evening! They'll be discussing Pablo's newest book, Marcus Vega Doesn't Speak Spanish, which comes out August 21, and is recommended for ages 10 and up. I am planning on attending - hopefully with students and colleagues! If you're in the Chicago area, consider checking it out.
